21.02 An afternoon mostly at the computer. Discharging non- GC related activities prior to the beginning of the course; mainly professional disputes arising from the most recent batch of UMG copyright violations.
It seems that I am acquiring a bad reputation within parts of that company; even the suspicion arising that I am driven by rage & venality. This is nothing new, of course, for those loyal fans who have not received the fullness of my attention, of which they are indisputably deserving, as would be evidenced in autography, photography, much shaking of the hand & hanging-out, such as is commonplace with more humane & considerate performers who appreciate their loyal fans that have parted with their hard-earned pay & sealed their communion in forms of commercial exchange.
A house of arrivings, not all with their guitars. The missing guitars have been traced by the airlines but not yet all delivered; although an Air Iberia truck has just unloaded one guitar. The piece of advice offered to Tony Bacon, enquiring on behalf of young aspirant players, given on the roof of Blenheim House, Kings Road, Chelsea during the last interviews arranged by EG in 1991, was this:
TB: What advice would you give to young musicians?
RF: Never fly Air Iberia.
TB: No, seriously: what advice would you give to young musicians?
RF: Seriously: never ever fly Air Iberia.
I note, 18 years later, that air Iberia has improved. No longer does one see flight attendants sitting under the on-board No Smoking sign & smoking in-flight.
Dinner at 19.00 with a performance by the Vienna Guitar Circle – twice.
All the Beginners are present, and three more attendees are supposed to arrive sometime tonight.
There was more noise than usual in the dining room, and then – it was as if a good set of Noisebuster headphones was suddenly switched on: all low frequencies dropped out in a moment, quiet & silence blending.
Not everyone was familiar with the House Rules, which were then called. A few words on the morning sitting are being presented in the Ballroom at 21.15.
22.54 A final catching-up of the day with Director Nunez. All the remaining lost guitars have arrived, Hernan reports, plus an alarming story of our guitar maker, Beaudoux of Buenos Aires, whose latest series of GC Pro models has reached a new level of quality.
